What is Dungeons & Dragons?

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is a cooperative roleplaying game where groups of players create a fantasy hero (Character) and join in collective imaginary scenarios navigating social encounters, solving puzzles, and of course, confronting monsters!

Who can play D&D?

D&D can be tailored to suit just about any age or maturity level. However, I recommend being at least six-years-old to start learning the rules.

What styles of play do you offer?

Any style you want! Grim-dark, high fantasy, hyper-realism, light & silly, etc. Just let me know what you’re looking for and we’ll work together to make it happen.

Do you use pre-written modules or write homebrew adventures?

Both! I recommend my homebrew (custom-made) adventure for beginners but you can request either for your sessions.

I want to play D&D but I don’t have anyone to join me. What can I do?

Send me an email and I’ll inform you of any open seats for upcoming games.

Where will we play?

For players located in and around NYC, we can meet in-person to play. Otherwise, we’ll play online using Zoom and D&D Beyond, the official digital toolset for D&D. I’ll provide instructions on accessing these platforms ahead of time.

What tools or resources do I need to play?

Online play requires a Chrome-supported device that supports Zoom, such as a computer or laptop. In-person play just requires yourself. I’ll provide everything else!

What is Executive Function?

Executive Function (EF) refers to a set of mental skills that include working memory, flexible thinking, and self-control. We use these skills everyday to learn, work, and manage daily life. Difficulty in Executive Functioning can make it hard to focus, follow directions, and handle emotions, among other things.

Do you work with
neurodiverse youths?

Absolutely! We provide a safe space for neurodiverse youths to practice decision making, group socializing, collaboration, and understanding the relationship between actions and consequences. If you’re concerned about the specific needs of your child, let us know so we can strategize the best way to support your child.

What happens in each mentoring session?

In each session, Heroes and their mentor discuss growth categories such as hygiene, chores, personal goals, and more. The aim of these discussions is to facilitate a healthy dialogue where Heroes are given the space to ask questions, process their experiences, and strategize new paths for success.

Do you offer tutoring in any other disciplines?

Yes! Please contact us with what kind of support you’re looking for and we’ll make a plan to help your young Hero together.

What is your cancellation policy?

We request 24 hours notice for all cancellations. In those cases, we can offer a credit to be applied towards a future session or booking.

Reviews for DM4A

“I started playing D&D with zero knowledge of the game and the worlds involved. It's been a couple of months playing with Chris as our DM and he's been just perfect. I would highly recommend him as a DM to anyone. You won't be disappointed.”

—Tymica S.

“Chris really brings out the best in my neurodiverse 10-year old. Each week my son would transform from a withdrawn, bored, unmotivated student to a joyful, fully engaged child who was enthralled by the worlds Chris transported him to and buoyed by the positive social interactions he was having with the other players. He later started mentoring sessions with Chris to work on Executive Function and writing skills, and the D&D and mentoring are a perfect combination. Chris’s patience, his kindness, and his mentoring abilities have really helped my son’s confidence and his ability to tackle challenges.”

—Nancy F.

“Chris is the best DM a new player could ask for! He makes a dense, complicated game easy to understand, and a joy to play! I’m excited to hop into each session knowing I’m in good hands.”

—Omri K.

"You really have a gift for making the session entertaining and informative, while making sure everyone is engaged and comfortable—and we appreciate you going almost an hour overtime!"

—Chris H.

“My nine-year-old sons, Barnaby and Sebastian, were in remote school all year and needed motivation to stay present and organized in class. The ‘screen’ became a tool for work but could also distract them while in class with games and YouTube. Chris gave them strategies to stay focused and motivated. They both enjoyed the mentorship and friendship they gained working with him. As boys full of imagination and curiosity, their connection to D&D games, characters, and stories were a perfect match.”

—Margi D.

“My sons (10 and 12) have really loved working with Chris! They have very different personalities and both of them have gotten a lot out of working with Chris as their mentor—which speaks to how skilled Chris is at mentoring different types of kids! As for D&D, Chris is an amazing DM. My younger son is a super-fan of D&D and the Heroes Circle group is a dream come true for him. We can't recommend the program more highly!”

—Becky E.

“Chris has made my first time playing Dungeons & Dragons super easy, fun, and exciting! The game seemed daunting to me at first, but with his guidance, I learned quickly as we played along. He is very engaging and has a great talent and passion for storytelling.”
